Location and dates of existence 5pt chelsThe ancient Pueblo civilization existed between 100 and 1300 AD. This civilization was generally located on the borders of the states we know today, which are the southwest part of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and some even lived in Texas. The North American Pueblo people lived in desert areas and in areas bordered by cliffs and mountains. By 1300 AD they had disappeared from much of their homeland, at the height of their success towards the end of the 13th century. The Pueblo people left their entire region. Modern Pueblo clans and tribes date from 1600 AD and beyond. Pueblo settlements located on waterways relied primarily on agriculture for food in addition to hunting and gathering. However, other pueblo settlements relied primarily on hunting and gathering, and instead of agriculture, these residents subsisted on wild foods. Traditionally, women did most of the agricultural work while men hunted. As hunting declined in the region, men also began to participate in agriculture. Corn was the primary and sacred food source of Pueblo life. Other popular crops included beans, squash, seeds, and yucca fruits. Big game deer and bison were popular when available.
