  • Essay / Case study on business ethics - 799

Short half course on BUSINESS ETHICS and CSR taught by Dr. Patrick O'SULLIVANIna YankovichIBP 2013 (356547)Sustainable development is today widely recognized as a desirable, even essential, objective for both governments and businesses. Explain the central meaning of sustainability and why it is today considered a moral imperative for businesses in particular. I would like to start by explaining the term sustainable development. Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the current generation without preventing future generations from meeting theirs. This formulation was prepared in the report “Our Common Future”, prepared by the International Commission on Environment and Development, by the United Nations in 1987. It became the core of a new paradigm of human development. We can say that the concept of sustainable development has acquired the status of an essential principle of the existence of earthly civilization. The profound goal of sustainable development is to save humanity and the Earth's biosphere. It is assumed that in this way we will be able to avoid a global ecological catastrophe and in the future it will be possible to achieve the two main goals: First, the survival of humanity as a whole and its further development. This also means that we should provide our descendants with equal opportunities in the use of resources and environmental conditions of Earth and space, as we (the current generation) currently have. This is what we can call the principle of equal opportunities for present and future generations. Second, halt the degradation of the planet's biosphere resulting from human development. The main thing is not only to achieve technological development or to solve the economy...... middle of paper ...... resource capacity and their prices, consumer demand, pressure investors, the attraction and retention of talented people, the appearance of new markets and the disappearance of old ones, the evolution of financial transactions. As I understand it, if the company considers the problem of sustainability as one of the approaches to its business activities, this leads, in strategic and long-term terms, to a reduction in costs, the formation of a new consumer base and the recruitment and development of talented people into the organization. . It is very important today for the company to get involved in sustainable development. This helps the company achieve a long-term goal, which would be combined with its core activities and strengths. This will also motivate employees and contractors to work better and give them optimism, because it is always easier for good people to create something useful and educational than to cause harm..
