    Eugenics is the study of agents under social control that can improve or alter the racial qualities of future generations, physically or mentally. After the major turn of the century, “eugenics” developed into a global movement. (University of Vermont, 2003) It was led by scientists and scholars in several diverse fields and funded by wealthy philanthropists, also supported by statesmen. Eugenics played a vital and central role in the political, social and intellectual history of many peoples and nations. (University of Vermont, 2003) Eugenics is a very controversial subject. Eugenics, in theory and practice, has attracted much criticism and opposition-inspired revisions. Interpretations of eugenics and its distinct manifestations in public policy varied by time, place, and professional and political cultures (Vermont University, 2003). Additionally, eugenics has been practiced in America for some time. It is the history of eugenics that makes it such a popular topic in society. After the Civil War, the economy experienced severe turmoil and a large influx of immigrants from southern and eastern Europe. The United States economy fluctuated rapidly and remained precarious until World War I (Drake, n.d.). As the economy became more uncertain, social inequalities between different segments of society became even more visible. During the same period, the big idea of ​​Social Darwinism became very popular and was used to explain certain social inequalities. Social Darwinism takes Charles Darwin's important concept of natural selection and applies it to society (Drake, n.d.).
