The temperance movement was a drinking law that took place in the 1820s. This movement was started to prohibit the consumption of alcohol out of fear that it makes people too violent and it makes the way they act weird. People tried to ban it by using morality and telling people that it harmed the way people behaved and that it influenced everyone negatively. It started with women who believed that intoxicating alcoholic beverages caused violence that was not good for the families' children. see. Women rallied with the unpopular temperance groups that were already on the side of the churches and supported their cause. After the temperance groups gained supporters, they naturally took over and began to influence towns, cities, and they got to the point where they began to influence the government to return alcohol illegal in entire states. Well, men being men, they didn't like rules. and the alcohol laws that temperance groups imposed on them. This was the birth of the moonshine known as Moon Shine. It was named Moon Shine because illegal alcohol manufacturers made it with only the light of the moon. As this was happening, temperance groups and churches and their supporters began to increase their influence in an attempt to make it a national effort to ban. alcohol. This cause has come a long way, but the idea of an alcohol-free country was born before the Civil War. But the idea died because the country was more interested in the upcoming war to support the idea. But after the war, the idea came back and as nothing was really happening in the country, interest in the cause increased.
