Essay / PROMPT Analysis - 608
This is a report on two different articles discussing errors in an article "Growth in a Time of Debt" produced by leading economists Carmen Reinhart and Ken Rogoff. The errors were discovered by Thomas Herndon, a graduate student in economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. According to Herndon (et al.), the statistical information was incomplete and was manipulated. The Excel datasheet also contained errors, so the calculations were incorrect. Due to these facts, the document produced contained incorrect information. I chose two articles describing the incident from the BBC websites and the Roosevelt Institute blog. Both pages present information in simple enough language that someone without extensive knowledge of economics can understand it. Source BBC.co.uk Next New Deal - The Roosevelt Institute BlogPresentation Both websites present their content in a very clear and easily readable manner. language. I haven't re-read either article but haven't noticed any notable errors. Also considering the reputable names of the sources, I assume that even if there had been minor errors or omissions, it would not have compromised the reliability of the information as a whole. Both pages are presented in a way that is standard for blogs and news websites. Neither page contains commercial advertising, which suggests that the information should not be directed toward commercial organizations. Relevance In my opinion, the information contained in both websites is very relevant to the topic. They are written in relatively simple language that is suitable for reading by the general public. However, some readers may only want to have a general understanding of the incident and others may want to delve deeper. ......f the information, in my opinion. If I had to recommend an article on the aforementioned dispute, I would suggest reading the BBC one first, as it offers a quick overview of the important points without too much detail . However, one can read Mike Konczal's article if more detailed information is needed. finally-replied-reinhart-rogoff-and-there-are-serious-problemshttp://www.rooseveltcampusnetwork.org/ http://www.nber.org/papers/w15639.pdf http://www .peri.umass .edu/fileadmin/pdf/working_papers/working_papers_301-350/WP322.pdf http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/more_or_less/7765528.stm & https://twitter. com/Ruth__Alexander http https://rooseveltinstitute.org/people/fellows/mike-konczal & https://twitter.com/rortybomb
