Kent State University has compiled a specific definition of the deaf community: "deaf and hard of hearing individuals who share a common language, common experience and values, and a common way of interacting with each other and with hearing people. » The deaf community is considered by the hearing world to be an official disability since it deviates from what is considered normal.
