Admission Essay - Love MedicineLove Medicine is a fascinating story of love, power, and pride. Its collection of characters all tell their own story offering different opinions and points of view. This variety makes the story very interesting. The reader gets to know each character in a very personal way through the different points of view. As expected, many of the same events are described differently by each character. But this variance allows the reader to draw their own conclusions and offers the possibility of knowing each person's personality. The history, however, is quite confusing, with extremely large and connected families. It seems to the reader that everyone is related in one way or another. This complexity can be extremely confusing and leaves the reader without a solid frame of reference when reading about other characters. The main character of the novel is difficult to identify. It seems like it's June, but she's dead and actually doesn't come up very frequently in other conversations. You could say there are several main characters. It appears to be LuLu, Lipsha, and possibly Nector. All of these characters come up very frequently and seem to be the most dynamic characters. LuLu is depicted trying to gain power in all aspects of her life; at home, politically and among his peers. And it turns out she's reaching the level of power she aspires to. Lipsha seems secondary and passive until LuLu raises the question of her ancestry. This uncertainty sends Lipsha on a journey to find the truth. And finally, it comes to a satisfying conclusion. Nector also stands out a lot, mainly because he is involved with so many people. Nector's transition occurs when he decides to leave Marie and devote himself to LuLu. However, his plan fails when he discovers that he does not have the opportunity. Contrary to what the name suggests, the main theme of the story seems to be power; power to women. The men in the story are controlled, manipulated and sometimes degraded. The most powerful characters in the novel seem to be the elders and the women. They are respected and even feared. This topic is by no means hidden. Many women attest to the fact that they want men to submit to them. There is a lot of allegory in the story. For example, at the beginning, the egg should symbolize June; hard on the outside, soft and smooth on the inside.
