ADHD: A Pandemic Without DiseaseDid you know that there is a medically diagnosed disorder that affects more than two American children? Experts on the matter say there are many other undiscovered cases and the cause is still unknown. Looks like we have a really big problem. The fact is that the disorder that affects all of these children is not a disorder at all. Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a group of behaviors that are considered a medical problem. In reality, it is not a disorder. It’s a trend that, one way or another, started. There are different steps that can be taken to stop ADHD. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is a chronic condition that affects millions of children and often persists into adulthood. Problems associated with ADHD include inattention and hyperactive and impulsive behavior. Children with ADHD may suffer from low self-esteem, difficult relationships, and poor school performance (children). Symptoms of ADHD may include, but are not limited to: being easily distracted, having difficulty concentrating, losing things, daydreaming, having problems. following instructions and completing tasks, becoming agitated, unable to keep quiet, and showing emotions without restraint. There is no physical test for ADHD (Sheen). When tested for ADHD, patients must meet certain criteria. They must show signs of at least six inattentive behaviors to be diagnosed. In addition, these behaviors, which must be exhibited for more than six months, must have a negative impact on the patient's life. The diagnosis is subjective and there are no real tests. Treatment for ADHD includes medication and counseling. The main medications prescribed for ADHD are stimulants.
