Essay / Male Gaze - 1329
With the help of the feminist movement of the 1970s, this article will reflect on women expressing their opinions on photography, film and the arts, all linked to the male gaze and will include artists such as Cindy Sherman. and Artemisia Gentileschi. Alongside the feminists are Laura Mulvey and feminist scholar Mary D. Garrard. Each of these women has an important argument in line with the male gaze. The male gaze in photography, cinema and the arts objectifies women in their femininity, their sexual identity and in society. A woman's femininity can be compromised in male-dominant society in photography, film and the arts. The male gaze is predominant in the woman who is the object of attention in films and seen as the damsel in distress waiting for a man to save her, the male relates to this character and not the female character. Cindy Sherman made a series called Untitled Film Stills that depicts women in this way. She dresses as different female characters in these ultra feminine roles that would mimic 1950s film noir where women are the protagonists. This goes against the commonality of the active man as subject and the passive woman and the male gaze. The femininity in Cindy's images speaks for itself, depicting the woman in her common role, personality and femininity. further, the viewer must ask himself what is really happening? Are we seeing these images through Cindy's point of view, or is she commenting on the stereotypes women face? The viewer must decide and is open to interpretation, promoting free thought. Next, Laura Mulvey's article titled "Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema" addresses the middle of paper's compromised femininity.... ...e writers who have different thoughts on this male gaze. Laura discusses from the perspective of psychoanalysis and Mary from the perspective of scholars, thus commenting on today's society. The four women educate us about this stigma in film, photography and the arts, to allow future directors to think of a different way to teach us about women. only in the approach of the male gaze. Women are becoming more involved in films as a whole and adding a new perspective that shines a light on the unjust past. This patriarchal mentality is an old-fashioned approach to society. Times are changing for the better and we are becoming more civilized as a society and I think it is time to focus on women empowerment which also includes women supporting women and pursuing women's determination to be equal men and to enlighten our society for the future and for our young people. women must know free will.
