Identifying the right patient is one of the crucial aspects of the healthcare professional's job as it is one of the 5 rights of medication administration and verbal verification is the best method to identify the patient. Another example of courtesy would be the IV therapist explaining what they were doing to the patient. According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), describing the procedure allows the patient to be actively involved in the decision-making process.
