Top-down communication is a strategy applied by top management to communicate with employees in lower organizational positions. Top-down communication is used to implement management directives and company policies. In top-down communication, distortion of information relayed from executive management usually occurs. Downward communication can be made more effective by allowing feedback from employees in lower organizational positions. For downward communication to be more effective, management must be respectful of subordinate employees and the latter must obey the commands or messages given to them through the communication channel.
