    Even though I don't identify with the community. I know firsthand what it means to be isolated or discriminated against. Being mixed makes it difficult to identify with one group, let alone attempt to be accepted by one or the other, so the isolation component is a huge factor that can come into play. I think that since I can relate to the fact that she is African American, and yet isolated in some sense, that can establish rapport in the therapeutic relationship. Additionally, given that I am a woman, this may also better facilitate the collaborative approach in the clinical setting. I think this aspect of being a woman should not be overshadowed, just like being African American in a predominantly white community. It is important to validate these points while using this theory as
