    Sex education has been widely controversial in public schools, not only in the United States but across the world. The debate covers many different issues, but currently the main focus is whether abstinence-only lessons should be used versus the more contemporary version called comprehensive harm reduction (CRR). Many factors come into play in this debate, including moral and ethical biases, but all research on both practices asks the question "which method is more effective in reducing sexual risks and consequences?" » Sex education is essentially the teaching of human sexuality as it relates to sexual anatomy. , reproduction, sexual intercourse and associated behaviors. Learning about these aspects is important for adolescent development because it is a natural part of life. Children learn this at school or somewhere in their community, such as in an after-school program. Although this seems like an obvious lesson to learn, children struggle to get this information from a source other than the organized curriculum of their health class at school. This is somewhat understandable, as it can be very uncomfortable for parents and guardians to discuss these intimate details with their innocent child, but it can potentially cause problems later in the teen's life. Brewin's article addresses parents' concern that sex education may actually arouse sexual desires and behaviors in children that were not previously present (Brewin.). However, curiosity comes naturally and if it is met with overprotection and suspicion from parents, then the child has no choice but to get the facts from another source who could possibly be a direct experience.
