Essay / Humans are heating the Earth - 874
Global warming is not only the warming of the Earth's atmosphere, but also unusual weather conditions. Many people agree that global warming is happening, but they cannot agree on its causes. Some people dismiss the topic entirely, saying the definition has changed too much over the years for comfort, but many say it is a developing topic, the full details of which we don't yet know. Many people believe that global warming is happening and that it is caused by humans and their way of life. At least once a year, a news story reminds us of the hole in the ozone layer and how global warming is here and in full effect. This has been proven by numerous studies and satellite images prove that there is a hole in the ozone layer. The ozone hole is normally said to allow abnormally high amounts of solar energy into the atmosphere and becomes trapped causing a rise in temperature. Studies have even shown that the hole is getting bigger, which can potentially cause temperatures to rise more. These same studies also simulated an increase in emissions in which the effects of climate change will be felt harder and faster than ever. Concerns have also been raised that whether weather conditions or not, the gases could damage water vapor in the atmosphere. If this were to happen, the supply of uncontaminated water would diminish as time passes. One confirmation of the warming of the Earth is this: measurements have shown that the temperature of the Earth's surface has increased by about one degree over the past fifty years (Begley 2). Although this degree may seem insignificant, it is the difference between boiling water or simply scalding. It's... middle of paper ... in the atmosphere, pointing to a global warning. When comparing this with the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, people can see that the statistics closely coincide.
