  • Essay / Racism: the great obstacle to the advancement of society

In our society today, there are still a voluminous number of cases of racial discrimination. This can range from a trivial insult to serious verbal abuse. There is discrimination everywhere, like in public schools, in jobs, and generally anywhere you can think of it. You would think that about a hundred and fifty years after the abolition of slavery and fifty years since the civil rights movement, we wouldn't have exactly the problem we still have today. Two of the most well-known examples of racial discrimination occur in the workplace and in the public school system, even though most people are unwilling to accept it. An exceptional solution is to educate people about equality and establish a code of conduct that should be followed and enforced by everyone. Imagine a person of color applying for their dream job. After overcoming all the obstacles presented to them, they finally acquired the perfect number of qualifications. Just when they begin to believe in themselves, that confidence is taken away from them. How? Another person who was not of color didn't have as many references as the person of color, but they seemed like a better candidate. For what? Don't ask me. Ask the person giving the job. This may seem strange and unusual, but in reality it happens daily. This situation should not happen because every individual in this world is the same and should not be judged by the pigment of their skin. An example of this can be found in Nathan Place's article, "Because You're Black." In this article, Jamilah DaCosta was turned down for a job at a bakery because the owners feared she would scare away customers. DaCosta told reporters: "They don't judge me on my personality, but on my skills... middle of paper..." Coach appalled by racist tweets will not return to school. The JournalNews.
