  • Essay / Childhood Obesity Educational Project - 539

IntroductionNowadays, people are living longer with respect to various factors, for example technology and evidence-based practices that guide practices, in order to provide safe and effective health care. However, many young adults are developing illnesses that were once reserved for adults. The prevalence of childhood obesity is increasing, as is the steady increase in comorbidities among young adults. Education may be one of the best options for controlling or preventing rising rates of childhood obesity. The presentation was delivered at a local recreation center where programs are offered for people of all ages. My target audience was teenagers because they need to be informed about childhood obesity and the health problems it can cause. This can prevent or control obesity rates and, therefore, reduce comorbidities associated with obesity. Preparing for Educational Development The educational project was developed to raise awareness among adolescents of the increasing rates of obesity and the health problems that may arise. I needed to gather information on the topic that I knew they should be aware of. The information had to be formatted in a way that the teaching could be understood to ensure effective teaching. Next, I incorporated some interactive learning activities to keep the information retained and interesting. One of the interactive activities was the most effective intervention that enabled the group to change their behavior. The activity involved guessing which foods belonged to different food groups and guessing the calories they thought they contained. All participants were very eager to answer the questions and when some of the questions they answered were wrong, they wanted to understand why. I felt like effective learning was taking place. Some obstacles I faced while preparing the teaching project were trying to phrase the project in a way that the group could understand it. Additionally, I had a hard time avoiding giving away too much information because I didn't want them to lose interest. The developmental characteristics of the respective group helped me to format the project suitable for learning and relevant for the participants. This was done so that effective teaching was provided. The changes I would consider if I had to do it again would be to post signs before the presentation so that maybe more people come and join..
