  • Essay / Facebook and Negative Feelings - 1911

Facebook was developed by Mark Zuckerberg who was in college when he created this social networking website. Zuckerberg's intentions were very different from what we expected and have become accustomed to. Facebook has allowed different sites and partner websites to access users' private information such as their interests, location and age. This has also allowed many users to cyberbully others without facing any consequences afterwards. Many Facebook users suffer from depression, sadness, anger, jealousy and many other negative feelings. Facebook has caused privacy interference, behavioral issues, and an overall unsafe environment for its users. Facebook was designed to connect people to each other and share social networks. “Zuckerberg wanted to create an environment where you could send messages, share photos, look at other people's photos, share videos and links, and have ongoing conversations with each other. This way, people can stay connected to each other regardless of their physical location” (ehow.com). Instead, Facebook has become a global problem and is slowly draining the lives of its users. The social media site is causing a lot of consternation among its users and is creating an unnecessary hindrance in the lives of its users. Facebook's intentions seemed good in theory, but when Facebook became a reality, things got worse. Facebook has the potential to become a very useful online social media source. However, there should be limits to using Facebook. People make it their main priority when in reality they only post what they have and what they have done throughout the day. If Facebook didn't exist, people would still be doing the same things daily and their lives wouldn't be... middle of paper...... lauds the dangers of letting their children use Facebook unsupervised. If people took appropriate steps to stop hate and bullying on Facebook, the rate of social media-induced depression could decrease significantly. There are many solutions to the problems caused by Facebook. To fix these issues, it could take a lot of time and money and Facebook doesn't want to waste that. But if users stopped using Facebook altogether because of these issues, the problems would be resolved. Facebook would lose the majority of its users and then fix the problems, but it would already be too late. People believe that it's okay if it doesn't happen to them and that it's not fair to those who suffer. They don't see all of Facebook's problems because they haven't experienced them. Facebook has become and continues to become a very bad idea.
