While attending community college, I went from fear of giving up to feeling confident in my ability to perform well and expand my knowledge in each class. What followed was that my self-confidence made me want to help others develop their own confidence and wisdom as well. I ended up taking on the role of mentor among my peers. Although this position was not official, I worked with other students on understanding difficult concepts, proofreading papers, brainstorming project ideas, preparing for exams, etc. Not only has it helped me improve in school and challenged me to work harder, working with others has helped me understand different learning strategies and individual principles from others who have them pushed to realize their dreams through education. Additionally, I helped them learn while providing them with new perspectives that challenged them to understand their purpose and why education could help them advance in life rather than college being just a something else they had to do.
