Offred, among other women represented in this novel, attempts to overcome this domination. In her own way, she attempts to achieve this by meeting the commander's expectations of her behavior that could result in her freedom. Thus, there is a current power struggle between the Commander and Offred throughout The Handmaid's adventure.
