  • Essay / Why and how to remain childish

Discover that an adult knew a certain truth I thought only children knew it. There is a certain magic in the minds of children. Many people take for granted what children say about the world. I used to laugh at everything kids asked and told me, but then I met someone who made me rethink everything. I met this wonderful adult during my senior year of high school, he is a seventy year old man and he was my history teacher. His name is Robert Andrews. One day he said something to me that touched my heart and touched my perspective on children. That day, I told someone in class that he should grow up, because he was too childish. My teacher called me out and sat me down so we could talk. He told me I should never tell someone to grow up. You have to remain childish. I then asked him what he meant and he replied: "Children have happy souls, they are innocent by heart, they know how to appreciate even the simplest things and how to turn the simplest thing into game. They are selfish, but they have no hidden agendas. They often want to help you, share what they have, get involved, uplift you, entertain you. Say no to plagiarism. If we think of them as great little beings of another species, almost as extraterrestrial visitors with their own treasures of wisdom and their own way of perceiving the world, our task as adults becomes very different. There is a great quote from a brilliant author in which he says: "There is a wisdom in children, a kind of knowledge, a kind of belief, that we as adults do not have ." -A Dark and Grimm tale by Adam Gidwitz. Most adults I've shown this quote to read it and think it just means that children are happy souls who don't experience the real world and we as adults are aware of this and we let's lose a little of this happiness that children have. all the time. I then tell them to read it again, “a kind of knowledge, a kind of belief”. This then makes them think. What if children were the ones who believed that there was so much more to this world, that there was some magic within it, something that we as adults stop believing in because Society completely breaks down these thoughts as we grow up. Some of the things my teacher and I talked about were things we, as adults, forgot as we transitioned into adulthood, things we probably never should have left behind. Just like the..
