Essay / How to use an electric compressor on a bicycle
MethodologyThe aim of the project is to increase the power of the bicycle by using an electric compressor.Steps performed:1. We bought the Hero Honda Cd Dawn as a bike for our Faridabad Supercharger project (belongs to one of our group members). We also needed the following components/materials: • Turbo • Motor • Battery • Sprocket set • Air filter 2. After purchasing the above materials, we mounted the compressor and motor on the bike by building 3 frames • Frame to mount the turbo hub on the bike frame • Frame to attach the motor to the bike frame • Additional frame for Turbo to reduce vibration Concerning operation, we decided to use L-Iron bars for the frame manufacturing as they are readily available and can support more load. We took precise dimensions using a caliper and metric scale and designed a CAD model of the frame. Then we took the model to a manufacturer for manufacturing work. Cut iron into L shapes to make frame elements. Markings for screw holes. Solder the elements together. Drill holes for screws. Grind off excess weld metal. Frame finished. Turbo fixed with frame. Next we had to mount the gears on the turbo and the motor shaft. The turbo shaft was heated and the nylon gear was slipped onto the shaft and clamped onto it, as welding and other machining operations would have damaged the tubo shaft and rendered the turbo useless.4 . Motor Frame ConstructionThe motor frame was designed and manufactured in a welding shop. The final frame to support the Turbo assembly was welded to the bike frame.Clamp to hold the motor5. The frames were welded to the bike frame to hold the assembly...... middle of paper ......d. We also found that the chain drive worked better than nylon gears because it suffered no wear. The fuel consumption of the motorcycle has been increased slightly, but the overall power delivered per unit of fuel consumed has been significantly increased. The best performance was obtained if the compressor was activated after the motorcycle exceeded a speed of 60 km/h. Using this process, we were theoretically able to achieve an increase of 2 hp, or a 27% increase in power according to the calculations performed. In practice, we gained 35 km/h with the compressor. As the trend of high-speed vehicles spreads in India, the applications of this compressor will increase significantly. This technology allows us to increase the power of a motorcycle without making significant changes to the engine itself. This also allows us to reduce engine sizes without having to compromise on power...
