The extent of research concluded in this field is the result of years of in-depth observations. Skeletal remains require constant in-depth analysis to reduce the chance of errors. Misconceptions arise from the incompetence of the principal investigator and the lack of an appropriate quantity of remains. Hominid fossils generally consist of fragmented bones, making establishing the morphology of specimens very laborious. For example, without the presence of the femurs, pelvis, and feet, it is extremely difficult to determine whether the specimen shows signs of bipedalism. However, there are rare cases in which fossils show well-represented specimens and are able to provide a surprising amount of evidence supporting certain physical data.
