On April 19, 1995, a 7,000-pound fertilizer bomb exploded in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, killing 168 people and injuring more 680. Ninety minutes later, police discovered Timothy McVeigh on charges of driving without a license plate and illegally carrying a firearm. Evidence found then quickly linked McVeigh to the bombing. McVeigh was then executed by lethal injection on June 11, 2001. After major federal executions such as those of Timothy McVeigh, Osama bin Laden, and the Rosenbergs, there was an increase in the number of smaller terrorist plots and more executions , which led me to conclude that the death penalty does not have a deterrent effect in cases of terrorism and seditious acts, because it makes them martyrs. Terrorists want to die for their cause and they succeed if they die in the attack or if they are put to death. The Oklahoma City bombing was in retaliation for the federal raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas, exactly two years earlier and the Ruby Ridge standoff. McVeigh also hated government.
