Essay / Issues with Parenting and Youth Sports - 1050
Kids play youth sports to learn what it means to be part of a team. They also learn to socialize with people, to listen, to follow the rules and above all to have fun. So why do so many children stop playing sports? Sports are a great way for parents and children to spend time together. Since children spend more time at school every day than with their parents. Sports are a great way for parents and their children to spend time together. Every year, 35 million American children ages 5 to 17 play at least one sport. 85% of these children will have a parent who will be a coach in this sport. 15% of them are afraid of doing sports. 71% of them don't care if the score is kept. 37% would like their parents not to watch them play sports. 35% of them do not plan to play sports next year. (Statistic Brain, 2013) Every parent whose children play sports participates to some extent; the level of involvement is different for each parent and each child. This involvement is the time parents spend with their children, this includes time spent at practices and matches and driving them to practices and matches as well as at home, there is a lot of talk about this sport. The most important factor in parental involvement is the amount of money spent on children. If a parent buys their child the most expensive equipment needed to play sports. The parent will likely want their children to succeed. These factors will put extra pressure on the child to be good at the sport and if they feel less than good they will not want to let the parent down and their stress levels will increase. Additionally, if their children do not receive any support from their parents, they will not enjoy playing sports either. Having too much involvement puts a lot of paper in the middle. The best way to prevent the problem is to have parents see the game through their children's eyes. They should do whatever the child needs and not what they think is best for their child. It is simply a different attitude on the part of the child. It will also require changing the way youth sports are organized. This can be done by focusing on rules and fun and not winning. This would mean that no scores or rankings would be kept. Make sure parents and coaches do not yell at referees or children. Parents act like they know what's best for kids in sports, but they don't know what's best for kids is for them to be kids. Have fun playing a sport while making friends and learning to love the sport without having to win. They might pressure a great athlete who isn't fully matured like other kids to quit the sport. He
