  • Essay / The Truth About Addiction - 771

Have you ever felt like you lost everything you had and needed to escape? Well, you might as well think about the consequences first, not the pleasure. Drug addiction is influenced by many factors. Not only does the brain change when taking constant doses of a certain medication, but life as you know it also changes. Drugs are deceptive; they make you think your life is getting better, when in reality it's getting worse. “Cheating” is what drugs do best; they trick the brain's receptors by sending them abnormal messages. After all, what are drugs actually used for? Once a person starts taking it, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to stop. However, if they actually stop, it will lead to many side effects, “a persistent vulnerability to relapse long after drug use has stopped” (Koob and Le Moal, 2001, p. 97-129). They completely lose control of their brain and body. How lamentable it is to see someone's life shattered before your eyes, without you being able to do anything about it. How sad to know that they had a reason to live before all this started, that they wanted to do something before leaving this world. All the medicine did was destroy them. As a result, drug addiction leads to brain damage, depression, and isolation; dreams collapse and life is hell. Addiction is a brain disease. Normal people would reach homeostatic levels every time they eat, drink, take caffeine, etc. Homeostasis is when the body's levels return to normal. In a drug addict, this unfortunately does not happen, because brain damage does not allow it. Basically, when the brain is damaged, it reaches an allostatic state, meaning the brain fails to achieve the proper dose... middle of paper ... the correct amount that satisfies the brain? The dream is no longer your main concern, it's the drugs... The drugs took place in your dream. So this is where depression comes in. To summarize, the side effects of drug abuse are very dangerous and change the structure and formation of the brain, thereby causing you to isolate yourself and become depressed. Drug addiction is perhaps another meaning of Requiem for a dream. Killing your dreams just because of a drug you can't resist. In the end, is it really worth it? All this pain, this failure, giving up everything, was it really worth it? Falling is part of life and getting up is living. However, it's up to you whether you want to die knowing that you made a change in this world or die knowing that you failed. Drug addiction is therefore nothing but procrastination leading to a miserable and abominable life..
