Essay / Democracy: The Best Form of Government - 906
“Democracy is worth dying for, for it is the most profoundly honorable form of government ever conceived by man” (Reagan, nd). This quote from Ronald Reagan shows that democracy is more than just government; it is honor, freedom and hope. Looking at previous governmental systems, including communism and capitalism, one can notice the limitations that caused each of these governmental systems to fail time and time again. With the balance of other previous systems, popular representation and limited power, democracy has proven useful for the prosperity and growth of this country. Even though most systems of government have broken down and failed in many ways, democracy has remained intact and has earned the right to be called the best form of government in today's society. Democracy can be believed to be the best form of government in today's society because it contains a combined balance of several other previous systems. Karl Marx, the founder of communism, believed that equality was the key to a strong government system. He believed that money, and the power that comes with it, would only drive people, communities, and citizens apart. Money “appears as that distorting power both against the individual and against the bonds of society, etc., which claim to be entities in themselves… it transforms loyalty into infidelity, love into hatred, hatred into love, virtue into vice, vice into virtue. , servant in master, master in servant, idiocy in intelligence and intelligence in idiocy” (Marx, 1844). Since communism wants to limit power and control over others, it makes everyone absolutely equal. Everyone is guaranteed the same things, including housing, clothing and education, and no one has the opportunity to rise...... middle of paper ......al , and its citizens.
