In almost a few days, the great flood that struck and killed so many lives will celebrate its first anniversary. Where were you when the tragedy that Ondoy caused in Metro Manila occurred? It was so tragic that it scared me so much and made me wonder why these things happened to us? Were you as scared as I was at that moment? Are you still filled with questions about why things like this tragic flood happen if God is truly watching over us? Have you ever wondered if you were partly responsible for what happened? Yes, it's true that at first I had these questions in my mind: Did God really break His promise by allowing this deadly flood to happen in the Philippines? Has he abandoned us? Are we so bad that He allowed us to suffer this kind of agony? But then again, I saw the reality at hand. I know for sure that a loving God will not allow these devastating events to happen to us. A loving God is never a vengeful or angry God. This event was a man-made disaster, caused by people's lack of responsibility and lack of love for Mother Nature. If we cared enough to protect the only Earth God gave us, we might have been able to prevent this thing from happening. If we had been responsible enough to at least dispose of our waste properly, we might have been able to avoid this deadly flood. If we had been smart enough not to cut down the trees in the mountainous area, perhaps this flood could have been managed. Unfortunately, we have become careless and irresponsible, which is why the only planet God created for us is now on the verge of irreparable damage. God created us to be the protector and steward of His creation, but we do not do the things entrusted to us. That's why, with what happened last S...... middle of paper ......s, this is the best thing to do. For as the Great Book says, what we do to the least of our brothers is what we do for God. So let us love our brothers with a joyful heart and surely we also serve God with all our hearts. Finally, I completely agree that in the eyes of our Lord God, we are indeed equal. He never looks at our appearance or our wealth. He only sees us through our hearts. And with God we are all on the same level of importance. Therefore, if the Almighty Father sees us equally, we should take it upon ourselves to be humble enough to be equally fair to one another. If God doesn't count how many car keys we have before loving us, we should also be kind enough to treat everyone the way God has treated us. And I surely know that if we all do these things, we will earn a place in heaven and enjoy all the “heavenly bliss” as promised..
