Essay / Breaking stereotypes - 676
From a very young age, I remember getting out of bed one day when I wasn't going to school and, before even eating breakfast, sit on my Xbox to play with my friends online. We played games all day and I didn't think about it. But as I got older, I realized how many people despised the idea of playing video games all day. Teenagers like me are often stereotyped as having no social life, when in reality most of them have friends they met online and society doesn't understand how these friendships work, how how important they are to us and how they are actually very similar. to in-person friendships. I don't know how many times I've heard these expressions: "He must live in his parents' basement!" ", "They need to get off their butts and try to have a social life" when people refer to teenagers who play a lot of video games. I may spend a lot of my free time in front of a screen chatting with people on the other side of the country, but I'm far from lacking in a social life. In high school, I was in band and on the Color Guard team where I made a lot of great friends. My online friends were just an addition to my life. Many of my online friends tell me stories about the friends they have in person. I may not see these people in person, but after spending countless hours talking to them over the years, I assure anyone who asks me that I most certainly have a healthy social life, all like my friends. Having played video games from a young age and later played video games. online I have met a wide variety of people from all over the world. I consider many of these people my friends, as well as the friends I also have in person. It is common for anyone who plays Xbox online to be part of a group, very similar to ...... middle of paper ...... our headsets in an effort to be as boring as possible, or mail a gag gift for someone's birthday or Christmas. Moments like these make me feel like we're all hanging out and joking. I can imagine my friends jokingly pushing and elbowing each other, fighting over who gets to sit on the couch and who gets to sit on the floor, acting like a group. of children. These friends are my chosen family, I couldn't ask for better people in my life. Corey, Johnny, Jack are amazing people who all have jobs, hobbies and go to school. My best friend and boyfriend Ethan, who I met 5 years ago on Xbox Live and met in person, has helped me through so many tough times in my life, we had our struggles but we always overcome them like any good friend would. . We're not lazy, we have great friends we talk to every day, and we don't live out society's stereotypes..
