    Donna Dubinsky was an impressive woman. She holds an undergraduate degree from Yale and a master's degree from Harvard. Although she had a background in commercial banking, she decided to work for Apple in the early 1980s. She worked her way through the company and started in 1981 as a liaison with the customer support. Through her hard work and success, she quickly rose through the ranks and received numerous promotions. In December 1984, she became director of distribution and sales. However, Donna ran into an obstacle that could impact her future at Apple when Steve Jobs, co-founder, chairman, vice president and director, wanted to rethink the entire distribution process. Apple was founded in 1976 and was a leader in the design of the personal home computer. Easy to use, Apple II was one of the leaders in educational computers. Additionally, Apple developed and introduced the Macintosh computer in 1984. However, the company had a high employee turnover rate and grew rapidly. Company management suffered and organizational charts were not formed. As the company grew, each division created its own mini-company concept within Apple. Because of the disparate structure, Steve Jobs hired John Scully in 1983 to reorganize the company. Mr. Scully flattened the hierarchy and combined sales and marketing. However, problems developed in 1984 with high distribution center overheads and declining sales of Apple and Macintosh products. Additionally, an internal power struggle between Scully and Jobs created discord within the company.
