I really enjoyed this week's scientific inquiry into light and shadow. In my experience, this science work is unlike the science classes I took from K-14. Generally, my science classes focused more on memorization than exploration. In my elementary science class, I remember memorizing science concepts, looking up words in the glossary, writing reports, and reading and answering questions in the book. We also had science magazines, in which we had to read the articles and fill in the answers. In my experience, I found that most of the students in my class simply looked for the answers at the end instead of reading the entire article. I think these science magazines would have been more helpful if my professors discussed the article in detail rather than just the answers at the end of each article. As a child, I considered science a boring and difficult subject. My teachers rarely took the time necessary to make sure I understood concepts, and as a result, I thought I was not good at science.
