  • Essay / Poetry about perfect women - 646

Many children around the world love Disney princesses. They watch Cinderella and learn to admire her perfect hair and how she looks in a ball gown. They grow up learning that women should be fragile and calm. These poetic works prove these thoughts wrong and show that despite the belief that girls are not strong or capable, they are. These works include Girls by Marina and the Diamonds, Love Me Slender by Sophie Hannah, The Perfect Woman by Hannah Warren, and The Women Who Went to the Field by Clara Barten. All of them show the beliefs about what women should be. My first poem was one I wrote called The Perfect Woman. “Tall and slim / with a loving smile” (3-4) This line shows one of the expectations of a good woman. He says that all women should be slim and tall and that they should never be angry and just follow what others tell them. “Delicate as a flower / and absolutely no power” (19-20) This phrase means that in the eyes of the world, girls are supposed to stand tall, be pretty and not have a voice. This poem expresses that there are still false stereotypes about women. The next poem in my anthology is by Sophie Hannah and is called Love Me Slender. This poem says that in this world, girls who are not skinny are worthless. “You can, in another way, be very nice / But if you're overweight, it doesn't matter. (7-8) These lines explain that for many people, your personality and mind don't matter, but your appearance does. This shows the harsh reality that girls who don't look like a model aren't as important as those who do. "You need a model's figure, skin and bones, / Straight from top to bottom without a single curve, / Unless you want to finish on your own, / Which, frankly, would just be... middle of paper. ..... and saviors of men. (88-91) This final line of the poem shows that ultimately, women during the war were helpful and saved lives. They beat the stereotypes, put on their uniforms and did their job. Overall, this poem explains how all stereotypes against women are incredibly wrong. What all of these poems have in common is that all expectations and stereotypes about women are false. When people truly learn this, perhaps we can be happier with ourselves and more willing to fight for the things we believe in. Because at the end of the day, women can be strong and powerful if they want to be despite what they are told. Today, with films like Mulan, young girls are finally encouraged to harness their inner strength. And while we haven't completely rid ourselves of all negative thoughts about women yet, we're certainly on the right track..
