Throughout the 19th century, industrialization was a turning point in the United States that led to enormous changes in society, economics, and politics. The growth of factories has had both positive and negative effects. Two specific changes were new government regulations and increasing immigration. These changes were extremely important because they established the foundations of the country. Industrialization brought many benefits to the nation, but it also created serious problems that required action by the government. Most factory owners treated their employees unfairly and unequally. They made them work many hours for underpaid wages. Most people, even children, worked 16 hours for 25 cents a day. Their employees had to deal with unsafe and sometimes extremely dangerous machines. If they were injured, they did not receive any financial assistance or any sort of compensation that would help them recover. Instead, they were fired from their jobs. If a machine caught fire, they didn't have safety measures such as fire drills or emergency exits that made getting out of the building so easy. Most food factories do not require their employees to wear gloves, masks, and hairnets while working and handling products. This lack of hygiene measures led to a large amount of disease that was easily spread throughout the country through the foods sold by these factories. Sometimes customers would find hair or even eat meat where someone had sneezed on it. Due to excess power, monopolies believed they could treat their employees however they wanted. To achieve better hours, better wages and better working conditions, the government passed several laws middle of paper...... that sometimes some ethnic groups did not share the same ideas with other people and that lead to fighting and violence in an attempt to become the leader. The effects of industrialization have been essential in determining the affairs of our country as it is today. Two important effects were new government regulations and increasing immigration. New government regulations have had a positive effect by creating laws guaranteeing better hours, better wages, and better working conditions for employees. Increasing immigration brought racial diversity and eliminated discrimination in factories, but it also caused cities to become crowded, dirty, and dangerous places due to violence and the easy spread of disease.
