This is just one example that Regina Casper used to present her argument about anorexia and bulimia in today's world. Since 1999, she has always been very concerned about eating disorders. She wrote an article in the Stanford Daily about her concerns. She has also written various articles on different things regarding women and their health. Regina Casper first experienced anorexia nervosa while she was in medical school. She played violin in a Department of Medicine orchestra to treat chronic patients with anorexia nervosa. She said when patients came down the stairs, they looked like ghosts. Everyone had a “how weird” thought. Regina Casper uses many examples to prove her point about anorexia and eating disorders. She goes so far as to give examples of fasting to rats eating “cafeteria” food. In this article, Casper uses many different examples and different areas of these disorders to make his point in educating us about these diseases. His thesis is very simple, it is the title of his piece. She used this to her best advantage, since the first thing the reader sees is what the whole article is about, making them interested and eager to read more. In this play, she sometimes gets lost in her own words, but she always finds a way out with an amazing example to get herself back on track. In the first paragraphs, Regina Casper explains that there are three different types of eating disorders. She describes each one in detail and all the symptoms of each. She uses statistics about women and men to prove her point. Statistics show that ninety-five percent of people suffering from anorexia nervosa are women, while only five percent are men. She says that in a study of schoolchildren and adolescents, boys or men rarely wanted to lose weight.
