Social media is a phenomenon that changed the world, a simple idea that became a trend, then turned out to be the most important medium to communicate with the world. individual, corporate and governmental level. It's one of the fastest and easiest ways to share and receive information. Social media has radically transformed the way people can communicate with each other. Social media sites are so widespread, it is surprising to know that recent statistics show that: “73% of online adults use social networking sites” (Hampton, Goulet, Rainie & Purcell, 2011, introductory paragraph ). Thanks to today's many social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Keek and My Space, individuals can now share every detail of their lives with the click of a mouse. Social media has brought about a radical and positive change in the field of communication, as it has eliminated all boundaries and barriers of communication and has finally transformed the world into a global village, where individuals are able to interact and respond to each other in a simple, intelligible and practical way. To begin with, one of the most important benefits of social media is the increased interactions with family and friends living far away from each other. From now on, contacting your father, your sister or your friend living far from home is no longer a complicated process. You no longer need to wait for the postman to collect your letter from the mailbox and have it shipped to another continent, or drain your pocket with expensive phone bills. Alternatively, you can now make an audio/video call using Skype, post a photo via Facebook to share a special moment with family and friends and start a conversation with...... middle of paper.. .... ng people creating several pages on various social media sites and an event on Facebook inviting people to participate in the street protests and which ended with the fall of the two repressive regimes. In summary, social media has become an important part of our lives. This allowed us to be more exposed to the world and increase our self-confidence. People can now freely express their beliefs through social networks. It is an amazing technology that has made human interaction easy, convenient and fast. I think social media is of great benefit to humanity if people use it correctly.
