  • Essay / The Buzkashi Boys - 678

The short film Buzkashi Boys, directed by Sam French, depicts the lives of two Afghan boys, Ahmad and Rafi. Dreaming of becoming their beloved Buzkashi Riders, they face many challenges while living in their war-torn country Afghanistan. Confronting the differences between their dreams and reality while experiencing a glimpse of their freedom, leaving Ahmad in a tragic fate. Sam French focuses the flashes to illustrate the differences between Ahmad and Rafi. Give the audience a comparison of their lives. Ahmad has a life without family and rules by doing whatever he wants as he pleases. Be independent enough to be alone. The lighting in his scenes, such as when he is begging on the city streets, is always bright and sharp, indicating that he loves who he is despite struggling to survive but secretly desires not to be alone. Rafi, on the other hand, has a family, a father, food and shelter. The flashes in his scenes are always less sharp when he is with his father, indicating that he is being held down and forced to work due to his father's parental domination and that he wishes to have this bond broken. The difference between Ahmad and Rafi is that not only are they friends, but their lives are completely different from each other because they both envy each other's lives. The flashes of lightning in the scenes erase these differences for the audience to see and compare to their own lives. In today's society, my youth is filled with people like Ahmad and Rafi. Teenagers like Rafi want their parents to free them. Wanting to have his own time to do what he wants with his friends. Have forever fun and discover their wild side. Teenagers like Ahmad who has nothing str......middle of paper......the film, they were never separated but always together since Sam French always distributed the two shots to show the the importance of their friendship. They symbolize that you always need someone to guide you and push you out of your own comfort zone. At the same time, you also show how much you really need someone to be there to comfort you and when needed. One of the scenes, for example, is where Ahmad and Rafi are sitting in the middle of a ruined Dumaralan palace and throwing stones into a tin can. Expressing their dreams, Ahmad wished to not live on the streets forever and become one of the national heroes of his country, a buzkashi rider. Rafi shared the same dream but has doubts, because he knows it wouldn't be what his father wanted. Together they find a way and discuss these possibilities for their future, offering hope for change in their lives..
