Essay / In Sinner In The Hands Of An Angry God
Logos by Jonathan Edwards, the speaker or writer appeals to the audience's logic by constructing a well-argued argument. (“Use”13). Jonathan Edwards uses logos in particular when explaining to his congregation the causes and effects of his actions in this life. "It is eternal anger. It would be terrible to suffer this ferocity and this wrath of Almighty God for a single moment; but you must suffer it for all eternity." (Edwards 43). By committing sin in their mortal life without converting, unsaved people will spend their eternal lives in the fiery pits of Hell. Another way in which Edwards uses the logo to bring common sense to his congregation: "Many who were very recently in the same condition as you are are now in a state of happiness, with their hearts filled with love for you." who loved them and washed them from their sins in his own blood, and rejoicing in hope of the glory of God How horrible it is to be left behind on such a day! feast, while you languish and perish! See so many rejoice and sing for joy of heart, while you have reason to weep for sorrow of heart and howl for vexation of spirit” (Edwards 44). By using logos, Edwards causes the congregation to question itself. If they can have such happiness by trusting God, why wouldn't they ?
