Education is something that many of us take for granted in the developed world. We go to school very early in life and most of us continue into our early twenties. It's such a part of our lives that we don't really realize how lucky we are to have the opportunity to be educated. Although it is common for people in countries like the United States to go to school, not everyone is so lucky. In the Middle East in particular, a considerable number of people are not even allowed to go to school. In some countries, such as Pakistan and other Middle Eastern countries, people have begun to speak out against educational practices that only favor a certain group. . In 2009, the Taliban banned women from attending schools in Pakistan's Swat Valley. Although this was the first official ban, the activist group had, for years, publicly expressed its disapproval of women's education.
