  • Essay / Gender Analysis Framework Credits - 711

A PRA collects initial information on what resources are available within the community, to whom they are accessible and where. Under this project, the PRA represents which toilet, water, handwashing and menstrual facilities are available for which gender, age and in which location. Needs analysis is conducted because there must be a differentiation between women's access to resources and their control over resources (Mcdonald, 1994, p. 61). To end the reinforcement of women's traditional gender roles, the needs analysis examines a "particular group subordination" (Mcdonald, 1994, p. 62) and the increased discussion and awareness enables them to be instruments of their own development. The PRA and needs analysis is brought together by the community members themselves in a collective forum at the start of this project and allows for better planning as it becomes evident who and where the lack of resources is most significant.
