The company was started by Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal, one a Wharton graduate and the other an IIT Delhi alumnus respectively in the month of February 2010. This successful duo were childhood friends who found entrepreneurs due to a series of events. Kunal has worked for industry bigwigs like Deloitte, followed by Microsoft. In 2007, his visa renewal was refused, forcing him to return to India. His entrepreneurial journey began with a detergent startup while studying at the Wharton School of Business. Rohit is a B.Tech graduate and M.Tech graduate from IIT Delhi. Seven Steps That Led to an Instant Deal: Like most entrepreneurs, they have experienced a myriad of failures and setbacks. Initially, in 2007, they planned an online movie booking site and also registered the domain name moviebooking.com for it. Once the details were worked out, they realized that there was virtually no margin in the business and therefore did not continue with their project. This was followed by restaurant discount vouchers in the form of a tear-off booklet. Selling or distributing it was difficult. Moreover, neither people nor the market took it seriously and were not very fond of paper booklets which were easily perishable. Inspired by credit cards, they introduced plastic cards as a substitute for books, but this time people had to buy the cards. The user base has decreased significantly. They kept it when merchants asked them to log in. Portal followed suit with its physical cards business, so Snap deal was introduced to the Indian e-commerce industry.
