  • Essay / Inadequate Parking on College Campuses - 1961

    Sheridan College sits at the foot of the beautiful Big Horn Mountains, in a cozy little western town where everyone thinks everyone else is their neighbor and treats them as such. After a week at Sheridan College, I guarantee any visitor would think it was heaven; that is, except for one problem: lack of on-campus parking. Almost every time in the past that I have attempted to find a desirable parking spot, I have failed and had to settle for a spot at least five minutes from my intended location. After three semesters of frustration, I received permission to research this predicament and present my findings in this report. Sheridan College is currently facing a problem that many campuses face nationwide: inadequate parking. This is due to a high student population (both residents and commuters) and lack of spaces. Unfortunately, the consequences of inadequate parking are a source of stress for students, staff and visitors. This stress causes more than just a headache; the additional unnecessary stress can ultimately cause students to fail. Students who struggle to find parking also struggle in class. Not finding parking causes students to be late to class. Students who fall behind feel anxious. Anxious students have difficulty focusing on their instructor during class. Students who have difficulty paying attention in class also have difficulty doing homework and passing quizzes/exams. Students who do not perform well in class are expelled from school. If too many students fall into this vicious cycle, then the college is in danger. Given all the problems associated with the lack of parking spaces offered at Sheridan College, it was clear that this dilemma...... middle of paper ...... b.
