A dictionary definition should be sufficient to define religion, but due to the complexity of the subject it tends to be insufficient and one must resort to the meaning of faith to understand it better. Let's look at what the dictionary tells us; First, belief in a god or group of gods. Second organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used to worship a god or group of gods. And finally an interest, belief or activity that is very important to a person or group. In truth, there is no single definition that accurately describes what religion is. If there is no explanation that completely envelops the real meaning, then it is understandable that there is no true universal religion. Religious beliefs can vary from culture to culture, but they are mostly based on the same principle: there is something much bigger than us and we must worship it. Since this is such a widespread principle, one would think that religions would have some sort of common ground, especially when it comes to two of the oldest and most important religions that exist today. Judaism and Christianity are two of the most universally practiced religions today. They are both rooted in their faith in the Bible. Their origins are based on the Bible. If their foundations are so similar, why are they so different and why can't they agree? The similarities between these two groups are almost as great as their differences. Examining the history and relationship between Judaism and Christianity would reveal the root of their long-standing discord.
