Many wish they could “leave it all behind,” abandon their responsibilities and abandon their lives as members of society to pursue their own dreams. Few people really take the transcendental idea to heart. Chris McCandless is one of those few. His wanderlust is fueled by his dissatisfaction with his family and the idea of social normalcy, his indulgence in the boundless literature of authors like Emerson and Thoreau, and his general attitude of rebellion growing up. his father's infidelity and the dependence on money imposed by social norms. When his father's secret of infidelity surfaces, Chris reflects on his father's audacity to put two families in danger for his selfish desires.
