    Yet Britain still tried to keep them under their power. One day, the Royal Crown begins to run out of funds for war. They needed money to support their fighting efforts. The solution they found was to increase taxes on the colonists (“Causes of the American Revolution”). The inhabitants of the colonies were outraged. For what? Not only because they were overcharged, but also because they were not consulted about it. England did not confer with the colonies on these terms at all. They simply implemented their laws and forced the taxes to increase. As expected, the colonists were not going to take this lightly. To avoid paying these taxes, they began to boycott British products. Britain was actually losing money. They would spend money on imports and getting them sent to the colonies, but the people would reject them. Eventually, the taxes were removed. Except the law which increased taxes on tea. Many are now familiar with the following, the Boston Tea Party. This was a raid on three British ships in Boston Harbor on December 16, 1773. Boston settlers disguised themselves as Indians and dumped massive quantities of tea into the harbor in protest against high taxes . It was one of the first revolutionary acts of this magnitude. Thousands of dollars in damage caused. Although Thomas was not involved, his writings inspired such acts. The power of the press must be taken into account
