  • Essay / What are the causes of global warming? - 814

One summer morning, I got up from my bed and quickly put on some clothes. As I went out early in the morning, I noticed that I was already sweating because it was so hot outside. I looked at the thermostat outside and it read 95 degrees Fahrenheit; I was shocked and couldn't believe it. What is causing these outrageous temperatures and why has it suddenly become unbearable to be outside? Global warming has been a major topic in recent years around the world. There are only two factors that could be causing global warming: Mother Nature or the human population. Humans are the reason our planet's temperatures are rising and if we don't do something to stop temperatures from rising; it will eventually become impossible for human life to survive on earth. Although humans play a huge role in global warming, so does Mother Nature. Increasing Earth temperatures are causing many ice sheets to shrink. Some ice sheets are shrinking more quickly than others. Phillip Stott, a professor at the University of London, states that Mother Nature will do what she wants, we have no control over her (396). The human population cannot control what Mother Nature does. Darryl Fears, an environmentalist, says global warming is caused by natural causes. Fears persist that methane, a greenhouse gas, is being released from Arctic tundra and wetlands every day. Human actions do not cause methane to be released into the environment, they just release it naturally. Not only does the environment release methane, but the Earth's rotation also does not contribute to global warming. The Earth does not achieve perfect rotation. As the Earth rotates, it wobbles, exposing the northern part of the paper. We debate and debate what we should do to slow global warming, but nothing happens. We need to start taking action and stop talking about what we are going to do. The world must become more energy efficient and stop relying on fossil fuels to power the world. Once we become more energy efficient, the amount of C02 dispersed into the atmosphere will decrease significantly. The population can also contribute to reducing C02 emissions by recycling, carpooling and saving the number of trees cut down. We can't do anything about the natural release of methane that occurs daily by Mother Nature, but if we do our part, we won't have to worry about what Mother Nature does. If the human population thinks about it, we can slow global warming and allow many more generations to live..
