    There are many ways to study, but what is the best and most effective way to do it? Everyone has their own path to study. The most popular techniques are memorization and formulas. Memorization is taking a particular idea and looking at it from all different angles trying to capture all sides while retaining every important detail. Formulas break down and analyze the concept of an idea. Both techniques are equally useful and are excellent building blocks; but what good is a building element if it is never used for anything other than a simple block? Of course, memorizing each corner and learning about its chemistry is useful, but only to a certain extent. The next step is to connect two similar topics so that the two become a whole. The puzzle will always start to make sense for each connected piece, and once completed, one will be able to see what it is. It’s no different when studying. There is another great way to study that connects ideas to see the big picture. This is called holistic study. Holistic – concerns or relates to complete systems rather than individual parts. It teaches that learning is a process like building a house with ideas and concepts. The more we learn, the easier it is to build. Holistic study has good techniques that are effective for learning smarter, easier and faster. Three of them use metaphors, find patterns, and build models that can be used in everyday studies. Whenever a complex idea arises, use a metaphor by taking the complex idea and comparing it to a simple idea. Whenever you look at different but related topics, always find patterns that connect them. Whenever an idea cannot be visualized, build a model so that the concept becomes more tangible and much clearer. Receiving, remembering, and thinking are the ways the brain processes information. There is an additional step that helps us learn, and also benefits others: teaching. When you teach someone, it helps the mind organize and structure information. If there is no one to teach, open a Word document and summarize the information. Retaining information is good, but letting it out, whether typed or taught, is just as beneficial to us. Receiving, remembering, reflecting and producing are the main elements of a successful study session. Memorization, formulas and connection are the keys to seeing the big picture.
