Essay / Sympathy In Shakespeare's King Lear - 1094
As observed in the play, the presence of both morally ambiguous characters and outright evil characters helps create an interesting dynamic. Although they seem rather one-dimensional, the antagonists of King Lear still prove to be compelling characters due to their motivation toward their ultimate goal and their roles in the main conflict of the play. Thus, not all fictional characters are required to have a conscience for the sake of complexity. Although the capacity to feel remorse is present in virtually all human beings, this does not necessarily have to be the case in fictional narratives.
