As stated earlier, the purpose of the audit report is to analyze and verify the financial statements and all accounts used by the government. This report must be presented to the National Assembly as soon as possible, after which it will become public for review by the general public. All audits are conducted in accordance with the Constitution of Belize (which vests power in the Auditor General), the Finance and Audit Act of 2005 and using guidelines established by the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions of Public Finance (INTOSAI). The reports can be used to indicate whether public accounts comply with all regulations and general accounting principles. INTOSAI provides an institutionalized framework for supreme audit institutions, with the aim of promoting development and improving public financial auditing worldwide.
