Essay / Analysis of “Let's Put Pornography in the Closet
Let's Put Pornography in the Closet” is a compelling essay written by Susan Brown Miller explaining and explaining why she believes pornography should be removed from all shelves in America. . She goes on to explain what kind of negative influence pornography has on society and how it is not good in our society to persuade readers that pornography should be removed from public shelves. In her article, she lays out some very valid arguments and substantial reasons why pornography should be taken off the shelves. But also, she seems a lot like a person who is very critical of something that she considers bad morals, because maybe that's how she was raised. Some of the methods she uses are the analogy method, the quantitative method and also some emotional appeal. She also has unsupported generalizations that she made up herself. Regardless, there were a few instances where I was completely against Miller's arguments, but they were outweighed by the instances where I agreed with Miller. Overall, this essay persuades me to support her opinion on removing pornography from public shelves because of the valid reasons and arguments she used to support her opinion. A compelling argument or statement that I completely agree with and that Susan Miller stated in her essay was that pornography is degrading to women. “…Pornography represents hatred of women and its intention is to humiliate, degrade and dehumanize the female body for the purposes of erotic stimulation and pleasure. We are unwaveringly opposed to the display of the female body stripped, bound, raped, tortured, mutilated and murdered in the name of commercial entertainment and free speech. " (Susan Brownmiller, page 3 of art...... middle of paper ...... net. I liked the valid arguments and evidence she gave for pornography to be removed from the public because they made some sense. I also like some of the methods she used has a negative influence on our society, I agree that pornography is degrading to women because they are obviously used as objects. , and the claim that pornography is forced on many people who do not even go looking for porn or even forced to watch porn is not true. This manifests itself. And the last, but not least, reason. , for porn to be removed from the public is that people will start to think that it is an art, according to Susan Brown Miller's persuasive essay on how pornography has many negative influences and effects on us. society, I am confident that I agree with the conclusion of taking pornography off public shelves.
