Essay / Factory Farming and Slaughterhouses - 747
It seems that the whole world has more demand for meat right now than when factory farming began. In the United States alone, more than nine billion animals are raised and slaughtered for human food. daily consumption (sanctuary farm). If that doesn't shock you, read this: Last year alone, 10,509 cattle were killed, 2,834,600 chickens were culled, the number of pigs increased to 37,235, and the number of dead turkeys is 78 823. (humanitarian society). This might not seem like a big deal, but it actually is: many of these animals are mistreated and live in unsanitary conditions, some of which include cows, pigs, and chickens. Not only do factory farming mistreat animals, they also cause damage to the environment. 70% of the land that was home to the Amazon rainforests has now been driven to deforestation because it has been transformed into pasture (humanitarian society). Industrial agriculture has put a strain on resources such as land, water and fossil fuels. This affects us deeply because the more resources we need for industrial agriculture, the less we have for other, more important necessities (agricultural sanctuary). This issue not only affects the environment and animal rights, it also affects our human health. Many agricultural industries use growth hormones in farm animals to increase the weight of an animal with all these chemicals that are not good for human consumption. Industrial farming may seem like a great idea for producing meat, milk, and eggs. but this is indeed not the case, it is in fact the opposite and you will see the reasons why. To prevent further damage from this cycle, we will need to come up with ideas that help animals and the environment. meat produced in these so-called "farms...... middle of paper...... and in the supermarket. By doing this, it will help save the environment, animal lives and people's health. Fortunately, something is being done to alleviate the problem. Celebrities like Laura Marano are causing this by starting Meatless Mondays where people don't eat meat every Monday all year round (aspca). Bills are also passed to reduce the number of animals killed and the condition of life in (human society). If we take matters into our own hands, we can stop this cycle of deception and finally put an end to the factory farming that began so long ago.
