Essay / Mahatma Gandhi's Path to Peace - 802
Mahatma Gandhi once said: "I wish equality for all, except photographers and journalists" ("Biography of Mahatma Gandhi") . Gandhi was known for his loving personality and his passion for life and equality. His mission was to free India from the clutches of the British Empire and he will be remembered as one of the greatest pacifists on the planet. However, to achieve all of his goals of truth and equality, he will have to overcome many adversities and difficulties during his life. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Kathiawar Agency, British Indian Empire. He is better known today as Mahatma meaning great soul or Bapu meaning father (“biography of Mahatma Gandhi”). In his early childhood, Mahatma Gandhi lived a difficult life as a member of the merchant caste. He was raised in a Hindu family, like most people of Indian origin. When he was a young boy, his family placed him in an arranged marriage, as was customary at the time, with a young girl named Kasturba, or Kasturbai when he was only 13 and she had 14 (“The Life of Mahatma Gandhi”). Given that they were together and had no choice, one could imagine that they weren't too keen on the idea of marriage. But after they got to know each other and became friends, she gave birth to five children and became one of his biggest supporters. Gandhi suffered two personal losses at the age of 15 with the death of his first child, who lived only a few days, and the death of his father (Rosenberg). This chapter of his life is now about to end and we move on to the next, Gandhi as a young adult. As an adult he moved to London to train at Inner Temple London to study law. While I was in Lo...... middle of paper......of Great Britain. The celebration was interrupted when Gandhi was shot three times during a prayer meeting. The attacker was Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist (“biography of Mahatma Gandhi”). Gandhi's death had serious repercussions across India. As the final chapter draws to a close, all of Gandhi's adversities have been overcome and all of his goals have been achieved. Gandhi is remembered as the man who liberated India, marched for South Africans, and granted many people their civil rights. Gandhi's life and legacy have inspired many world leaders, including Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela and President Barack Obama. Albert Einstein considered him a model for generations to come. Gandhi valued truth, non-violence, and equality, and perhaps if we followed his philosophy, we could all learn to love one another and live together in perfect harmony..
